How did I go from “get-to-know call” to a “sales call” to closing my first ever “coaching call” in less than 60mins.

Hey professional misfits,

This week we will explore how to sell coaching.

Tools that you need:

  1. Stories

  2. Positive affirmation — especially at the beginning of a conversation

    • At the beginning of your call, label the person you’re talking to that they’re going to be successful, that they’re not a failure, and that they’re not alone. And they’re more likely to believe that your product would help them do just that later.

    • Most starter-business feels underappreciated, disrespected, overwhelmed, overworked, and underpaid. ⇒ make them feel the opposite

  3. Empathy — listening skills ⇒ you want to listen 75% of the time

What happened exactly?

First, relationship starter

A relationship starter had to be initiated — people buy people (a relationship they can trust) not a series of transactions

  • Be curious about them and their story ⇒ be less interesting and more interested and that will make you more interesting

  • People are subconsciously going to share or signal a pain they have — that’s why empathy is so crucial because as a good listener you’ll most likely catch that signal

    • In this case, I learned that this business is new and has no clients (that was the pain and the goal)

Listen carefully (empathy in action)

Repeat and reflect back on what they’re struggling with

Be relatable

Share your story on how you had a similar if not the exact pain in the past and how your journey look like to overcome it

  • Bonus tip: share an analogy, concept, or metaphor (this will show your expertise especially if you can take complex things and bits of information to simple and digestible thought processes)

Watch out for insights! this is the key

I learned just from listening to this business that they are looking for a coach in the creative business space and I had a coaching offer myself, but is it a perfect match? could they afford it? no.

  • They are in a time of space where money is tight, where every dollar counts

Mindset shift !!!! ⇒ “You are always selling”

I am always in the Nobel pursuit of helping people grow.

  • They might not be able to afford me now but they will in the future! and they will certainly buy if I can help them reach that future tense.

Create an irresistible offer they feel stupid saying NO to

(Reference to Alex Hormozi’s book)

The dream offer (an offer by definition is a service/product that helps you achieve a goal) for them (focus on the word them not me) aka the goal they’re trying to achieve is a combination of low-budget coaching + getting their first clients in the door

  • Now, that’s the default offer, how can I make it irresistible so that we can remove all the other competitors in the space (aka the other coaches in the market)?

    ⇒ Here is my pitch: “If I can coach you and help you land your first client for free would that be something you’d consider?”

The result?

The business sold itself to me

  • They asked me how much would I typically charge for this. What’s the investment to join my community? How can they give back in return for this opportunity? How can they be ideal for me (how can they be coachable)? What’s the time commitment? What’s the process look like? And when can we start?

    ⇒ And this is ladies & gentlemen the only right time in a sales call where they gave you permission to pitch your service, now you can brag about how awesome and shiny you are.

Was this a lot to grasp at once?

Here is the only thing that matters:

FIND THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO TALK TO FIRST
— Match-make your business —
Romanticize your business Tinder profile

In other terms, Do your research and find who this ideal persona looks like.

Bonus tip: If you already have a place where your ideal persona hangs out, ask a couple of people to answer these questions for you, that’s what I did for my community.

Hence why owning a community is crucial nowadays,
